Devlog #4 - Game Concept & UI Overhaul (0.0.9 release!)
I am not sure how I feel with the development of my game. I believe that even though this update is half-complete it helps me see the pathway to my goal. I want to address my thoughts and the current development of my game in this developer log.
Q1. What do I want my game to accomplish? What are my goals?
I love anime ever since I was a child it helped me cope with life to forget about the stress and to relax to see the amazing fictional worlds. As I grew older and lost interest in watching anime I turned to reading manga which led to another avenue of distraction. I was amazed at the vast array of imaginative works of fiction. This soon turned into reading manhwa's and manhua's soon to novels.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed reading novels considering how much I disliked reading school materials. I never truly understood how these "high school" books were profound or thought-provoking. This led me to writing my own novel as an avid reader how hard would it be?... Very eye opening writing a book is much different than reading you learn that you are no better than an amateur as I grew to be a better writer I soon felt that despite being happy at creating my world I felt it was lacking something.
Randomness... I hate when I already know what will happen in fact this part of me is what stops me enjoying re-watching shows without a little difference. Because I already experienced and know what will happen I no longer have the motivation to read or watch. Video games can cull this feeling to bring a wave of freshness that other forms of entertainment cannot compete on.
That is why I turned to becoming a game developer. Choosing Godot it was perfect they released version 4.0 with new quality of life updates that made making my game possible. I want to create a game that is capable of bringing my own daydreams into games "What if... I reincarnated in this world. What would I do?" This simple question stuck within me...
Soon as I began the development of this project more and more questions came to light bringing depth to my game. IF: Endless Worlds is a text-based role playing game where you play as a character that can reincarnate into worlds and live however you wish. My focus as a writer and a game developer is to merge Lore & Gameplay into a single entity.
Q2. What is "Account" and what is "Character"? (Reincarnation)
I always liked to have many different saves but it felt empty to create a new game savefile. This idea came to me upon playing roguelikes such as Dungeon Maker on Andriod. Once your run dies you gain Devil Stones to which you can purchase from card packs to gain new cards. This idea of starting a new run "Character" with new additions "Soul Credits" it gives another sense of progression to bring depth into my gameplay.
This also helps me give a reason to have "Character" once dead to be permanent. This answer also fits greatly into my game lore-wise.
Q3. Realm of Reincarnation? Expansive Virtual Domain? Genesis Creation Well? Market? Library?
Realm of Reincarnation is true rebirth where you are reborn in a realistic setting with hardcore.
Expansive Virtual Domain will be the online world alternative where you can play just like a litrpg.
Genesis Creation Well, Market, & Library will be expanded futher later in another update log.
Ultimately there are a lot of things that I want to accomplish. I am an ambitious person and I feel like instead of rushing for a monetizable game (which I could) I want to complete my life dream. There are so many things that is why I want to post my unfinished un-polished update to help me set my foundation and think upon the direction I want to take this. This u-turn is costly yes... but it made me much happier to change my game to set the foundation to what will come that is why I think my game will take much longer for it to officially release.
Please rest assured, I CreativeCorvus am hard at work and this game will be a place in the future where all writers and game dev's can create and add their own world in the future. Quote this line.

Wait game isn't properly lauching wtf???? I need to quick fix this.
Ok, I re-exported both .pck and .exe so it should work? (pray)
Ok, it didn't work. Uh... ima start coding again since it works on my end but not in Itch.io launcher
I found the issue it was due to a missing texture file that wasn't caught as an error in the game engine but only in the godot.console.exe upcoming patch (couple minutes) will fix all issues.
